Movie Review - What Happens In Vegas

There was an advanced screening of What Happens In Vegas tonight. So of course I had to go.

Basic story is boy meets girl in Las Vegas, both get drunk and end up getting married and the next day they both realize it was a mistake and agree to go separate ways but then one last quarter in the slot machine wins them 3 million dollars. So now they can't get divorced because the judge decides that too many people get married on a whim and marriage is supposed to be for better or worse, so he forces them to stay married for 6 months, with weekly marriage counseling, and then if it was proved that they gave it their best in the marriage and still wanted to get divorced they will meet back up in court, will have their divorce and split the 3 million.

Totally predictable storyline where they each try to drive the other crazy (she takes forever in the bathroom so he takes the bathroom door off, she tries to get him to cheat so she invites a bunch of sluts over for a party, etc.), but it was really FUN ride! Lots of laughs. Typical stuff for the most part, but a few surprises along the way. I especially enjoyed the "trick" Joy could do with the champagne bottle. That was cool!

Cameron Diaz (Joy) and Ashton Kutcher (Jack) had really great chemistry together and you genuinely were rooting for them to figure out how perfect they are for each other and you are anxious for them to get together in the end, but at the same time you are enjoying watching them make each other's life hell by being the most annoying person possible.

In the beginning of the movie, she gets dumped by her fiancee and he gets fired by his own dad, so they're both feeling each other's pain and end up finding they have a lot in common by the end of the movie.

Probably not required to see on the big screen, but it was very enjoyable. Not a single boring moment and there were a few really heartfelt scenes. The best audience would be the kind that enjoy the goofball type of comedy. Unfortunately there was no nudity but lots of eye candy for both of the sexes and I heard quite a few of the guys whooping up the laughter, so I think it would be enjoyable for both the women AND the men.

I dunno. It wasn't the kind of comedy that was over the top great where I need to see it again right now, but I will definitely buy it as soon as it comes out on dvd and I can see myself watching it again.

Oh, and once again, I was the only one left in the theater after all the credits were finished rolling where there was another little blip. This one wasn't super funny but it provided a chuckle and it's one more reason why I insist on waiting out the movie to get my money's worth. And those 40 or 50 other people that left before that scene will be kicking themselves that they didn't have the patience to wait those five extra minutes. Oh well. Too bad for them. I have no sympathy for these people. You pay almost $10 for a ticket and you don't watch every single minute shown on the screen and then find out later you missed something? You have no one to blame but yourself.

Vixy :]

most of the chick flicks i've seen with Ashton Kutcher have been pretty good, A Lot Like Love is another example
