Movie Review - Iron Man

First, my apologies for no posts in quite a long time. I have still been seeing all of the movies, I have just been too lazy to post. I have no excuses and will try to get everything caught up this weekend - which will probably end up being to the tune of 20 or so movie reviews.

Anyway, I saw Iron Man tonight. While I thought the trailers made the movie look excellent, I still had in the back of my mind that this was going to be a dumb movie.

Guess what? I thought it was an excellent movie! It was a tad long (a little over 2 hours) but I don't see where they could have shaved anything off. The story was pretty involved and I believe every scene was necessary. Probably the only place I could think of shaving time off would be the time spent where he was in the air or the time it took to assemble the suit.

So the basic plot is a robotics genius (graduated top of his class from MIT) is now the head of a missle manufacturing plant and due to being captured by baddies in Afghanistan and barely surviving, he creates a robotic suit of armor in order to eliminate the bad guys who have taken over his missles and discredited his good name. Come to find out, his own company sold the missles to the Afghanistan group and now he has to figure out who in his company has changed sides and is selling missles to the enemy.

By far the coolest part was all of the gadgets throughout. He is, afterall, a robotics genius, so he is surrounded by nifty things like a "helper" who can extinguish fires (one of my favorite scenes, actually). He also has some super hot cars and and awesome house (built on the top of a cliff).

The story, itself, showing him building not one but two Iron Man skins was really neat and his computers that did the work were pretty impressive, too. I'm sure the REAL robotics geniuses in the world who see this movie will see flaws, but I liked it. It was entertaining, had some pretty good action scenes, pretty cool aerial photography, a few scenes of suspenseful moments. and Robert Downey, Jr. was SMOKIN HOT! (feel free to refer to my Charlie Bartlett review...still lookin' damn fine!) I would highly recommend Iron Man!

This next comment is directed to my fpotp (IF he's reading this, that is)...honey, you probably won't like Iron Man....the action sequences and special effects were similar to Transformers. And since *I* thought Transformers was awesome and *you* thought Transformers sucked (of which I still have trouble understanding why you didn't like it), I can't really picture you liking this movie. Except I do think you'd like all the gadgets and gizmos - who knows...might even give you ideas.

One note...and I cannot stress this enough...if/when you go see this movie (and I do believe it needs to be seen in the theater) make sure to stay until the VERY VERY VERY end of the movie. Yes, I mean you will need to sit through those excrutiatingly long credits. Because AFTER they all roll, there is another little half a minute blip that sets it up for a sequel and there is a special surprise guest star who isn't in any other part of the movie.

No, I'm NOT going to tell you who it was or what the scene was about. You will just have to see it for yourself. Except for a few violent scenes and a couple of insinuated sex scenes, there really isn't anything bad in it. Just your typical comic book action flick type of stuff, so I think it would be okay to see as a family film.

Until that last little blip after the credits, I thought the ending was pretty weak. In fact, I think I may have even (silently of course) booed. Because the way the movie kept building and building and then that last line being delivered as flat as it was and then boom the movie's over, it was a major letdown. But I will bet you that those other 50 people that were in the theater watching the movie who left before the credits finished will be kicking themselves for not having stayed after they find out that there was an extra bit of the film that they missed. Because when I left the theater, I was the only one there.

See? Sometimes it DOES pay to be the nerd watching thru all the credits. I figure, I want to get my money's worth, so dammit I'm seeing every last little word on the screen up until you hear the film projector screech (which is a VERY scary noise when it's late at night, btw.)

More reviews this weekend. Go see Iron Man!

Good to see you reviewing again, Vixy.

This was a really good film.

As per usual I got bored after he transitioned from the origin story to the superhero story (see also Batman Begins), but RDJr was just terrific.

Thank you, Dwight!

I intend on seeing this one again sometime next week probably. I may have been a little harsh on the boring scene between the two robots at the end. Maybe it was more exciting than I thought and I just was having trouble focusing. Getting older, it's been more difficult to stay up that late anymore.

You DID stay to see the very end part, I hope.

I'll probably try to see it on Thursday right before Prince Caspian.

Jr. was hot, but Gwyneth was looking pretty good, too, btw.
