I love the ugly duckling becomes a swan movie and this one really delivered.
Shelley has been a misfit ever since she was first abandoned as a baby, but once she hits puberty, she starts being noticed and next thing you know, she's living at the Playboy Mansion where she is showered with love and surrounded by a wonderful family. But the day after her 27th birthday party, she is given a letter from Hef saying that she has 2 hours to move all of her stuff out of the mansion because she is just too old to be living there anymore. She doesn't get to keep the car that Hef gave her because it belongs to the mansion and because she is now an outcast, not even her cat will come with her (quite the funny scene with the cat).
So now without a job or a place to live, she wanders upon a college campus and decides that she wants to be a house mother. The Zetas are about to lose their charter due to lack of members, but with Shelley's help, they become more outgoing and gain a better fashion sense and in turn, get more attention from guys and even better - pledges.
I guess you could call this the Revenge Of The Nerds for girls. But I assure you, the guys will be so drawn to all of the hot chicks walking around scantily clothed, that the girls won't have to drag their guys kicking and screaming to see this movie.
While The House Bunny has a lot of heart (and a lot of laughs), I'm not sure I like the message that it sends because it basically says that as long as you start out being pretty, you can always buy the right clothes, fix your hair the right way and then you can always get the book smarts later. I think it tries to tell the opposite by saying that as long as you're pretty on the inside, you can be pretty on the outside, but it doesn't quite make it. Because, let's face it, the only girl that was "fat" was pregnant and that hardly counts, now, doesn't it.
Anyway, this was a very enjoyable movie from beginning to end and based on the trailers, you know that there are going to be a bunch of deleted scenes when the dvd comes out. I mostly loved all of the clothes, but you have to rock the body before you could even attempt to wear most of them.
Once it comes out on dvd, I know it will become part of my selective dozen that I could watch over and over again.
Vixy :]
