Movie Review - College Road Trip

This was a cute family movie. Definitely geared more towards the younger girls who are huge Raven fans. And she was actually one of the executive producers of the movie, so that earns her a bit more respect in my eyes.

But...before I give you my review....this being a Disney movie, ever since seeing the trailer, I kept having the same thing go thru my head....Why was it okay for Raven to have huge boobs, but Lindsay's had to be reduced for HER Disney movie?

For those of you who do not know, when Lindsay Lohan starred in Herbie Fully Loaded, she not only had to have her clothes digitally altered (they added in turtlenecks to her v-neck sweaters), but they also digitally reduced her breasts by one full cup size. Reasoning? Disney believed that Lindsay would be a bad role model for the younger girls if she was that developed.

Now we have College Road Trip where the two characters are approximately the same age, but not only are Raven's clothes not altered but they are skin tight on her and it seems like every scene they're right there in your face. And she is about three times bigger than Lindsay. So why is it okay for her and it wasn't for Lindsay? I'm thinking it's because she was the executive producer on the film? Either that or because (so far) Raven hasn't been portrayed as a party girl, she is still wholesome in girls' eyes?

Excuse me for that mild vent, but it was VERY distracting to the movie. Also, that whole "you go, girl!" type stuff....just doesn't float my boat. So that was distracting, too. But maybe I still have a bad taste in my mouth ever since her Cosby days. I still remember the interview that she had when they asked her (at age 6, I believe) what she wanted for her birthday and she said she wanted a Lamborghini. (I don't have much tolerance for spoiled brats.) And wasn't she the one who started the "talk to the hand" smart aleck attitude that kids have now? Even if she didn't start it, I think she's an awful role model for young girls.

Otherwise, personal feelings aside, the story is pretty good. A girl whose future college choice (Northwestern) has been pre-determined since her birth by her father (police chief) who doesn't want her being too far from home. But her choice is much farther away (Georgetown) and she has been given the chance to interview for a spot so her father insists on driving her there and they have many adventures along the way when the car ends up having problems and they not only have to find a place to stay the night but also have to find alternate transportation to get her there on time.

It's probably pretty obvious that I would have enjoyed this movie more if there was a different actress other than Raven playing the main part which is why I have a hard time figuring out if I should recommend this movie or not. Never been a fan of the double dutch bus song, but she did a great job with the version she did and the rest of the music in the movie was good, too. There were also lots of laughs and the family connections seemed genuine.

Someone, anyone, please argue Raven's performance and general personality and young girl influence and maybe I will change my opinion of her. As it stands, as enjoyable as the story was and the rest of the performances were, I do not plan on seeing this movie again.

However, if you don't have a problem with any of the above complaints I have made against her, you will probably enjoy the movie.

Vixy :]
