As expected, Jim Carrey's performance for Horton Hears A Who (as Horton, the elephant) was overdone. But despite that, the film was still cute.
The jungle is run by a kangaroo (Carol Burnett) and everyone bows to her existence. When Horton thinks that he hears something on a speck that is on a clover, he starts talking to it and finds a friend in a Who (mayor of Whoville - Steve Carell) and quite a bit of the conversations revolve around proving that each other exists. The kangaroo tells Horton that he is crazy and that of course there is no one living on a speck on a clover. He is instructed to get rid of the clover and when he refuses (standing up to the kangaroo is a huge thing) she searches out someone who will destroy the clover.
The movie had its slow parts, but the overall theme of the story coming from the famous Dr. Suess makes for a nice family flick.
The best part of the movie was the mayor's wife, who provided 99% of the comedy in my opinion. She stuck by her husband even when she thought he was going crazy, but the dry wit she had was the best. I wish there would have been more scenes with the Whos and less of Horton fumbling around fighting off the monkeys and the vulture. And they could have completely cut out the part showing Horton starring in his own comic book...that was unnecessary to the story and the movie fell flat for me at that point, only picking up when they showed Whoville again.
Kids will like it and possibly the young at heart, but adults with little patience for animated antics might get bored, so at this time I cannot recommend this movie.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who is classic, i forgot how much that guy packed into such simple storylines... they didn't add much to the original story either except for the usual Jim Carreyisms.
