Movie Review - There Will Be Blood (Part 1)

Two warnings before you go see this movie:
1. Make sure you have had your bathroom break before you take your seat. The movie, itself, is almost 2 hours and 40 minutes and when you add in the previews, that makes your sitting still in the theater in one spot a marathon of 3 hours. Luckily I didn't find myself needing to leave the theater at any point during the movie, but there were quite a few people that were not so lucky. I felt sorry for them because this is the type of movie that if you miss a few minutes, you're completely lost. I should know because I missed a few minutes here and there.

2. Probably not the best flick to be sitting on top of the speakers for. I took my seat in the third row from the front as I've been doing for all the movies I've been seeing, but there were SEVERAL scenes where I swear to you I thought I was going to lose my hearing. Not nice loud booms, but screeching high pitched not-sure-what-the-purpose-was noises. I'm sure they were loud for the people behind me, too, but maybe if I sat more towards the middle instead of closer to the aisle....?

That out of the way, this was an excellent movie about a man whose life revolved around two things: his son and digging for oil. He has the manpower and the equipment to be the best in the business. Now, he just needs to buy up the right properties. Reluctant property owners and a hearing impaired kid are just a couple of the obstacles that are in front of him.

Daniel Day-Lewis did a good job playing the character. Funny how he looked like Tom Selleck and sounded like Sean Connery (both very good things) but some of the things that he did in this movie were just so...shocking.

I will end up seeing this movie again because I missed a few parts due to the theater being as cold as it was, so hopefully that will help me understand why during the majority of the film I kept saying to myself, "Why did he do THAT?" and "Why did he DO that?" and "Why in the HELL did he DO that?"

Might categorize this one as a drama/black comedy. Because you're laughing at uncomfortable scenes and lots of disturbing images are shown which leave you wondering what is going thru this guy's head.

As it stands, I absolutely HATED the ending, but to be fair, I will post again after I have seen it a second time...and I have also resolved that NO MORE dramas after 9pm. Too much possibility of falling asleep that late at night in the cold theater. And I think I'll get a cup of hot cocoa this time to slurp on to keep me awake. That's a long time to be watching a single movie when you can't be curled up on the sofa wrapped in comfy blanket.

More on this later.....

Vixy :]
