Just got back from a sneak preview of 27 Dresses.
Excellent, EXCELLENT movie! This is a perfect date movie because the girl will love it and the guy can use the excuse that he "had to go" while he is secretly enjoying it as well.
Jane has loved weddings ever since she was 8 years old where she was a flower girl and was able to help the bride through a catastrophe. Now she has been the perfect bridesmaid taking care of every last little detail and even attending two weddings in one night (by far one of the best series of scenes in the movie!).
She has also been taking care of her boss, George, whom she is secretly in love with and has been for years. One night at an office party, he gives her a compliment and her friend nudges her to go make her move but as she is crossing the floor to get to him, she sees that his eyes are glued to the girl in the sparkly minidress who just sauntered into the room - her younger sister, Tess. Jane reluctantly introduces them and as the weeks go by, Jane is forced to painfully watch as her sister and boss grow closer. Next thing you know, Tess is engaged to George and of course is wanting her big sister to be her maid of honor and take care of all of the wedding plans.
In the meantime, a writer for the New York Journal, Kevin, who saw Jane go to two receptions in one night, takes an interest in her as soon as he finds out that she has been a bridesmaid 27 times. Jane finds him to be quite annoying as his cynicism for weddings is blatantly obvious. However, she humors him and lets him see each of these atrocious dresses that "if you shorten it, you can wear it again" and she discovers that he's not so bad after all. But she is still smitten with George.
So do you root for her to be with George or with Kevin?
I cannot WAIT to see this movie again! And in fact, I am going to see it this Friday when its official release comes out in theaters. Jennifer, I PROMISE you that I will see it with you as soon as it's out with closed caption, but I gotta see it again before that. You know I can easily see a movie again and again and again if it's really good. I think I've seen The Devil Wears Prada 15 times (I'm serious.) and it's not THAT old of a movie...this one is by the same writer, by the way.
I saw a few similarities between Jane and myself. The whole "not being able to say no to anyone" part, definitely stuck out. And the "taking care of everyone" part, stuck out as well. Two huge differences, though - I've only been a bridesmaid once, and I am not in love with my boss. Oh, and I'm not smokin' hot like Jane is, either.
Great storyline, NICE eye candy, good music, LOTS of laughs, and GREAT ending! A bit predictable in spots, but there were enough surprises to balance it out. And I will never think of Bennie And The Jets quite the same way again!
Hopefully I didn't reveal anything too crucial to the plot, so that the movie can still be enjoyed to its fullest. I laughed, I cried, I muttered "you bitch!" in about equal amounts, so what more can you ask for?
Girls, go see it! Guys, take your girls to see it! (And I bet you'll love it, too!)

I think My Beautiful Wife is taking the girls to see it. Thank goodness I'll get to miss this one.
That Katherine Heigl chick is really cute, but she needs to change her name to something that sounds much less like a vaginal exercise.
I know they'll all love it, Dwight, but I bet they all come back saying that you would have liked, it, too.
Let me know.
