Movie Review - Dragon Wars

I'm waiting until the price goes down dramatically before I buy this movie. Below is my review from when I saw it in the theater. Per my review, the purchased dvd will be to see the selected scenes. The rest of it sucked.

I'm not really sure what this movie was supposed to be about....it was VERY slow in the beginning. Every 500 years there is a girl born with "the mark of the dragon" and when she hits her 20th birthday, it is her obligation to sacrifice herself for the good dragon to appear and conquer the bad dragon to save all mankind. This supposedly started a LONG time ago when the first girl refused to let the good dragon take over her body because she fell in love and ended up jumping off a cliff with her lover, so now 500 years later, we see a girl with "the mark" and find out that she's 19 and this reporter guy about her age has this special amulet and has the mission of finding her and making sure that she fulfills her destiny.

When you find out that these reptilian creatures and their armies are completely destroying the city and killing people in the process all because they want to get to this one girl to kill her to make sure the good dragon isn't summoned, you find yourself sitting there thinking "just kill the girl" but I think you're supposed to be rooting for her and the point is supposed to be that she lives and summons the "good" reptilian creature to kill the "bad" one and then all can be good in the world again.

The acting wasn't that great, the characters were hard to like, the eye candy just wasn't there (for me, anyway), and the story was hard to follow.

BUT....all of the dragon/snake scenes were AWESOME! Jurassic Park type stuff...putting yourself in the main characters' places, you'd be peeing your pants. The effects were THAT cool!
So I would suggest waiting until this movie comes out on dvd and fast forward to just the snake scenes (the dragons don't show up until the very, very end of the movie) and then you'll enjoy this one. Or....you could see this at the theater and enjoy the special effects on the big screen as they were intended as long as you are aware of the bad acting, slow moving story and unlikable characters.

Vixy :]
