Movie Review - The Brave One

Waiting for this one to come out on dvd, this is my review when I saw it opening night.

Honestly, I thought this would end up being the same movie as Death Sentence because it's all about a vigilante hunting down the killers of a loved one, but it ended up being much better than I expected. Jodie Foster always seems to overact in my opinion and this was confirmed once again listening to the voice-over at the beginning of the film as it sounds like she's reading from a book to a bunch of children, but then you realize that she does a radio show, which make it more acceptable.

She and her fiancee are so in love and can't wait to get married but eloping is out of the question because they've already ordered the invitations and his family has been looking forward to the big wedding. They go for a romantic walk with their dog, tossing the ball a few times for him to fetch, and then after a few minutes of conversation, they realize that the dog is nowhere in sight. They go looking for him and discover that the wrong people have found him and demand a reward. They are now surrounded and both are robbed and then beaten to a bloody pulp. She wakes up in the hospital several weeks later to find out that her fiancee didn't make it and she no longer feels safe in the city that she grew up in so she buys a gun. Her perspective has completely changed and there are situations that she coincidentally ends up in and in order to protect herself she ends up killing a few men along the way to finding the guys who killed her fiancee.

She befriends a cop and they get really close and as the vigilante murders keep happening, he confides in her about the murders and then slowly figures out that it has been her and now has to decide if he will turn her in or look the other way.

This had a very satisfying ending and while I liked both Death Sentence and The Brave One, I would see The Brave One again first.

Vixy :]
