Every team Coach Fields has been in charge of has been a loser, but he is still obsessed with sports and his family life has suffered because of it. He even has trouble remembering his daughter's name. His friend comes along and offers him one more chance to become a winner by coaching a high school football team, so he takes the job. After weeding out the "bad" players, he is left with quite the array of team members including a female kicker, a narcissistic wide receiver and a quarterback who has a trophy for dropping the most balls. Through training (some odd - including dodging wrenches), he is determined to make his team a winner and keep his family at the same time.
I'm not quite sure what to think of this movie. Most of the laughs relied on Airplane-type humor, so if you liked Airplane, you will probably like The Comebacks. The trailer didn't really do it justice, though. The funny bits keep coming at you during the entire movie, but being goofball slapstick humor, there were lots of groans that came with the laughs. It was fun to see the many different movies it spoofed. Probably the best one was the Field Of Dreams scene.
Not buy-worthy in my opinion, but worth seeing once.
