The Heartbreak Kid is on dvd now - yes, I purchased it - below is my review at the time of seeing it in the movie theater.
Ed has never been married, not because he doesn't want to be married, but because he feels like he has never found the right woman to settle down with. One day he meets what he believes is the perfect girl for him and after a few months of dating her (abstaining from having sex with her, by the way....this is important for the plot) he pops the question, they get married and then go to Mexico for their honeymoon. On the drive there, he discovers many things about his new wife that completely changes how he sees her and he questions their compatibility. One night while she's in the hotel room, he's down on the beach at the bar and meets a girl that he has an instant connection with - who is there with her family - and he decides that he must figure out how to leave his current wife so that he can be with this other girl.
It was really quite funny throughout and the comedy bits seemed to be original, although the type of humor I think was more geared towards men than women in the sense that most of it relied around either body parts (predominantly noses and boobs) or bodily functions to get the laughs. One of the biggest laughs was when after being in all these different sex positions like the corkscrew, he says to his wife "why don't we just try the missionary position for a little while" and she says "what's the missionary position?" heheheh...you guys out there are probably thinking she sounds like the perfect girl, eh? But he's having to work REALLY hard to keep her satisfied all the while she's yapping in his ear about "tell me how much you like it" and then getting a little too rough for his taste both during AND after sex.
I don't want to spoil anything for anybody, but it was great up until the very, very end. In fact, it was HILARIOUS up until that point. But I absolutely HATED the ending. Maybe when the dvd comes out they will have had an alternate ending because I can't believe this would have been what the writer intended on the way the story was supposed to finish.
Anyway, this was definitely worth another viewing. (I think maybe the blonde was supposed to have been played by Cameron Diaz at one point or another because it seems that it may have been written for her and the girl resembles her a bit. Perhaps she wasn't available due to scheduling conflicts, but this other girl did ok. - Sorry, I don't remember her name and I'm not going to look it up now.
