Movie Review - Good Luck Chuck

My dvd copy is on order, but I don't have it yet, so below is my review based on seeing it at the theater.

I enjoy Dane Cook because he is funny, VERY easy on the eyes, and I think he's turning out to be a pretty good actor. I thought this story about a penguin-obsessed klutzo hottie who runs into a cursed to never find true love hottie was done very well. Granted, they could have done Jessica Alba's character a little better because while they had good chemistry together, she was such a bitch; and, frankly, I didn't want them to have a happily ever after. (And while you get to see lots of boobs and lots of his butt, they do NOT show HER nude in this movie - sorry, guys. Although there is one scene where you can see the side of her boob and when the dvd comes out, I'm sure there will be a lot of guys pausing that part to catch a glimpse, but otherwise, you'll just have to keep imagining what she looks like in the buff.)

Anyway, this was a cute movie and I thought it very funny. Critics hated it saying it if you're expecting the next Superbad, you'll be disappointed. And while I didn't think it was as funny as Superbad, either, I don't think it should be compared to anything else. It isn't supposed to be another Superbad. Its purpose was ... as all movies are supposed to be ... entertaining, nothing else. And this one more than delivers as every minute of it was enjoyable.

There are a few sappy, but touching, moments that prove that he is more than just a shallow sex machine, but otherwise I was laughing throughout the whole movie all the while rooting for him to keep the love he had finally found (even though it was with HER) after all the women he had lost to "the next guy".

A bit of trivia:
1. Dane did a similar ass-scratching scene as what was in "...Waiting".
2. As promised from commentary in Employee Of The Month, Dane is wearing the cap from THAT movie in the scene in the park in THIS one.
3. Someone out there will have counted how many women he slept with, but it will be impossible to figure it out without being able to pause the movie. There are too many multiple shots of him with different women to be able to count and they never tell you in the movie how many he has been with.
