Movie Review - Across The Universe

If you like music of The Beatles, then you will most likely enjoy this movie. The entire cast does a really good job with the many songs including Hey Jude, Something, All You Need Is Love, Revolution, and Strawberry Fields Forever (there are over 30, but those were my favorites). Across The Universe was unlike any movie I'd ever seen before. It starts out with a guy sitting on the beach and the camera zooms in on him and he starts singing The Beatles' song, Girl (like in the preview) and you're not quite sure whether to expect a musical or a drama or something in between. It was a little bit of Merlin (fantasy special effects), a little bit of Hairspray (every 10 minutes or so breaking out into song), and a whole lot of A Clockwork Orange (where you're just not quite sure what you're seeing or what to think). It's the hippie-dippie era where boy (Jude) meets girl (Lucy) whose boyfriend is in the army fighting for our freedom and then tragedy ensues and a love story is formed. The movie is probably more about the special effects than anything else, but it's a pretty good story where you care about what happens to the characters and the music is excellent. The characters' names revolve around Beatles' songs (Jude, Lucy, Prudence, etc) so based on that, I'm sure there are deleted scenes with more songs that didn't make it into the movie because it was already too long.

I bought the cd with all of the songs and I will definitely be buying a copy of the dvd when it comes out. Hopefully it will have a bunch of really cool extras because the special effects were...WOW!

Vixy :]
